Uddhav Thacjrey government rejected the CBI probe inquiry into the TRP scam the UP government wanted CBI to look deeper into the case. However, his government stated that it has to take an official nod from the state officials without taking over any case. Central Bureau of Investigation always starts giving their all into the cases that come under their jurisdiction. The organization already has several cases as usual including the Hathras Rape Case. The CBI is known to provide unbiased rulings. Now, CBI will need a nod from the Uddhav Thackerey government if it has to operate into a case that falls in Maharashtra.
Uddhav Thackerey government made Maharashtra the fourth state to do this
Before Maharashtra, three other states have done a similar thing. West Bengal, Rajasthan, and Chhatisgarh have also withdrawn the general consent to the CBI to investigate cases within their geographical boundaries. The Delhi Special Police Establishment Act, 1946, governs the CBI. Under this, the states gave their consent to investigate on February 22, 1989. On Wednesday, the state took back its universal consent. This was done in a meeting in which Uddhav Thackerey was the president. Other people present included Ashok Chavan, Chief Secretary Sanjay Kumar, Ajay Mehta, and Ashish Kumar Singh. Basically, the leading people of the Uddhav Thackerey government presided over the meeting.
This decision takes the power from the central agency to probe into cases in Maharashtra. However, this decision will not impact CBI’s probe into actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death. This, however, impacts the future cases which the CBI could take, like the TRP scam case. It said that the Mumbai police are already investigating the case.
The reaction to the decision is not so subtle
The external parties believe that Uddhav Thackerey government is trying to effectively meddle in the case and not bring about effective outcomes. This also aggravates Bharatiya Janata Party and the Nationalist Congress Party’s Vikas Aghadi. BJP leader Ram Kadam said, “Uddhav Thackeray government feard that the truth will come out. They have earlier hid the truth of Palghar lynching case and this is what they are doing now.” Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut further asked the Union ministry to look into the matter. He alleged that if the officials are banning someone to look into the internal workings, there is definitely something fishy.
