On Thursday, US President Donald Trump finally answered reporters since his loss to Joe Biden in the 2020 Presidential Elections. But he soon lost his cool as he snapped at a reporter. Trump even went ahead and called him a lightweight.
Ever since his loss, he has spent nearly three weeks trying to make baseless claims of “massive fraud” during the elections. This is mostly how he spent the Thanksgiving weekend – making claims about fraud in the battleground states. While his team couldn’t provide a single proof of evidence that could corroborate his claims.
Regardless, his team is working towards a formal transition for President-elect Joe Biden. On Thursday he expressed gratitude towards the troops through video conferencing then sat down with reporters at a peculiarly small table.
During the press conference, Reuters White House correspondent Jeff Mason asked the President if would concede if the Electoral College votes for Biden. In his reply, Trump said, “Well if they do, they made a mistake, because this election was a fraud.”
This was followed by Trump making more claims about fraud during the elections and calling Biden’s victory invalid. Regardless, Mason kept asking questions to the President regarding his false claims. This did not go well with President Trump, who quickly evaded the question and started belittling Jeff Mason.
Donald Trump snapped back at the Reuters reporter and said, “Don’t talk to me that way. You’re just a lightweight. Don’t talk to me that way. I’m the President of the United States. Don’t ever talk to the president that way.”
The behavior of President Trump caught reporter Jeff Mason “offguard”
Mason told CNN’s New Day that the President’s behavior towards him surprised him. He said that it had “caught him off guard.”
Reporter Jeff Mason said President Trump condemning him after asking a question about his election defeat “caught me off guard.”
“It's the first time that he has taken questions…since Election Day…so we needed to ask him all of these things,” Mason said. https://t.co/7FpboHVt1R pic.twitter.com/I4g7CqkTsi— New Day (@NewDay) November 27, 2020
Furthermore, Mason added, “Yesterday, I had asked that particular question twice, and he kind of filibustered a little bit, which is why I was pressing him, and he just didn’t like that.”
This is not the first time President Trump has put a target on Mason. Earlier, in a different press conference, he snapped at Mason for wearing a face mask while asking questions to him. In a conversation with New Day co-anchor John Berman, Mason said that it was “not awesome” when the president attacked him personally.
Trump is still to denounce his Presidentship and has hinted that he still doesn’t intend to acknowledge his defeat. When reporters asked him regarding the vote of the Electoral House, he said that he would leave the White House but never likely concede.
He also asserted that their country is dealing with a very fraudulent system. He said that it worried him. He further added that the people are very disappointed that “we were robbed.”
It is noteworthy that this is the closest Donald Trump has come to accept defeat since he actually lost to Joe Biden in the 2020 Presidential Elections.
