The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulator approved a third booster jab for those with weak immune systems. Amid the rising Delta variant cases in the country, this news is a relief for many.
FDA Approves COVID-19 Booster Shot in the United States
Amid rising COVID-19 cases in the United States, the FDA on Thursday approved a third booster jab for those with weak immune systems. Under this regulation, anyone with a weak immune system is eligible to receive a third shot of Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 jab. However, the US is currently struggling with a surge in COVID-19 cases due to the Delta variant. The variant has now become dominant in the US and is a great threat to those with weak immune systems. Henceforth, FDA approved the third booster jab for those who are allegedly having weaker immune systems than others.
What did the Authorities Say About the Approval?
The FDA Commissioner, Janet Woodcock, approved the third jab in a press conference on Thursday. She stated that the United States is dealing with yet another wave of COVID-19. However, this is a difficult case for everyone who stays in America. Besides that, she also mentioned that immunocompromised people are more vulnerable to the virus. Henceforth, their safety is the FDA’s top priority. Therefore, they are introducing a third booster jab for all those who have a weak immune system and are at the risk of catching COVID-19 quite easily. Moreover, solid organ transplant recipients can also go for the third jab.
Israel Approved a Similar Booster Jab Too
The authorities in the United States were debating for a few days regarding the third jab. A similar booster jab was approved in Israel a few days ago. However, after a lot of discussions, the health panel finally approved the booster jab in the US on Thursday. On the other hand, Israel has already started inoculating the booster jab to older adults. They believe that a third dose will enhance an individual’s immune system and provide them the immunity to fight against the Delta variant.
COVID-19 Vaccinations in the United States
Quite some time ago, the CDC stated that people who are fully vaccinated need not wear masks anymore. But it reversed its statement a few days ago when the Delta variant started spreading in the United States. Now everyone has to cover their faces, regardless of their vaccination status. Besides that, the COVID-19 vaccinations in the country have also slowed down. Henceforth, the authorities are constantly urging the citizens to get vaccinated as soon as possible.
