The United States announces an additional $41 million in assistance to India during the COVID-19 pandemic. America had helped India too when India was badly suffering from the second COVID-19 wave. And now, they again offering aid to India in its fight against the Coronavirus as lawmakers cutting across party lines demanded more.
India to Recieve Additional Aid from the United States
The United States will provide more COVID-19 assistance to India in the upcoming days. However, they will support access to COVID-19 test kits and other medical services. Besides that, they are also going to provide pandemic-related mental health support to India. We all know that so many people are getting frustrated during these tough times. Some are losing their jobs, losing their family members, etc. All this has a very negative impact on one’s mental health. Therefore, mental health awareness is as important as physical health awareness. Moreover, India will receive access to healthcare in remote areas from America. The US Agency for International Development (USAID) announced the news on Tuesday.
Both the Nations have Helped Each Other in Times of Need
So far, the United States had provided $200 million worth of assistance to India. Besides that, they have provided emergency supplies worth $500 million previously to India. They had also trained more than 214,000 healthcare workers during the pandemic period. India provided immense support to America when the country was battling with COVID-19 last year. However, President Joe Biden had also promised to help India in every possible means he can. India had supplied hydroxychloroquine to the US last year when the country was witnessing a spike in infections. Donald Trump, then President had appealed to PM Modi for the same.
The US Lawmakers Expressed their Concern
However, the US Lawmakers from both parties have called for more assistance to India. They mentioned that India is still dealing with COVID-19. It is a global pandemic and one country should always support the other. Last year, when America was suffering, India came forward to help. Henceforth, they have decided to help India expressing the sense of the House of Representatives. They also highlighted the fact that though daily infections in India have dipped, there is no point in taking risks. India can face a new wave anytime soon.
