The Quad countries- Japan, the United States, India, and Australia stated on Friday that they pledge to deliver at least a billion doses of the COVID-19 vaccines to the world. However, the coalition’s vaccine initiative was announced in March this year. The pledge included the manufacturing and shipping of a billion doses of the Coronavirus vaccine with partners bulging in with funding and logistics.
The Quad Countries Pledge to Deliver 1.2 Billion COVID-19 Vaccines
Considering the crisis happening all around the world, the Quad countries have pledged to donate 1.2 billion COVID-19 vaccines to the needy countries of the world. There are several nations that are yet to receive even a single dose of the Covid vaccine. However, the news comes amid the WHO’s concern over the countries moving ahead with a booster jab.
There are countries like the United States, Israel, etc. that have started inoculating their vulnerable population with a third jab. Meanwhile, there are many poor countries that have not yet received a single batch of Covid vaccines. Therefore, the coalition has decided to donate a billion vaccine doses to these poor nations.
The Coalition is Focused on Delivering Good Quality Vaccines
In March this year, the Quad countries pledged to donate a billion doses in the Indo-Pacific region and the whole world. So far, the coalition has successfully donated 79 million doses through the WHO-led vaccine availability facility, COVAX. However, there was a huge supply gap over the past few months. A joint statement from the coalition cited that they are working with key multilateral initiatives to deliver safe, quality-assured, and effective vaccines to low and middle-income countries. The alliance also mentioned that they working on increasing the manufacturing capacity of the vaccines.
Improvement in the Manufacturing Unit
The leaders of the Quad countries have welcomed Biological E Ltd. to help them with the manufacturing process. However, through Quad investments, this company will assist the alliance; in delivering safe, effective, and good quality COVID-19 vaccines to the whole world. The alliance targets to deliver all the doses until December 2022. Besides that, the coalition also welcomes India’s announcement to resume its manufacture and export of COVID-19 vaccines through the COVAX facility. India is resuming its export of Covid vaccines in October 2021.
The Quad Countries are Preparing Themselves for Future Pandemics
Considering the COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on the whole world, the Quad countries have decided to prepare themselves for another pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic collapsed healthcare units all across the globe. Henceforth, the coalition has pledged to prepare themselves for any future pandemic. Besides that, they have decided to carry out at least one pandemic preparedness test once a year.
