Talking about the animation in the final episode, showrunner John Eisendrath said, “One, we address head-on that we were doing this because of being shut down. We didn’t have a narrative reason to make it half-animated, and so we decided not to pretend that we did. And two, we took liberties that we would not have been able to do in live-action”. He said this in an interview with NY Times.

During The Blacklist Comic Con @ Home panel, Eisendrath said, “this year, we have all the big stuff that we were unable to finish at the end of the last season that is going to start this season. So, the next season, Season 8, starts in a much more heightened and dramatic place than normal seasons do because we are gonna tell the story that we were unable to tell at the end of last season.”

Megan Boone, who plays Liz has posted on Instagram that fans are going to love the new season.

The story till now…

The show has managed to deliver shocking twists one after the other. From Liz’s huge decision to the animated finale, The Blacklist Season 7 finale is filled with surprises.

We also see Red’s condition get worse in Season 7. According to reports, Season 8 will touch more on his mysterious illness. The show has been teasing his medical condition since Season 6 and till now we don’t have any answers. His sickness may well be a major storyline in the next season. We also see Katarina stepping in to save Red when he fell in. Her motivations for Red still seem foggy but we believe she has some hidden agenda. She will likely not let anything from the past stop her from getting answers.

We also see Dom at his bed with Liz sitting nearby. Brian Dennehy, who portrayed Dom passed away in April due to a cardiac arrest. We see his daughter, Katarina lead a full-blown attack at Dom’s place where he gets shot. His return in the next season could be a huge plot as we all know he harbors a lot of secrets. The use of animation in the next episode will also allow the creators to bring back Dom in the latest season.
