India’s COVID-19 situation is deteriorating day by day. The country witnessed more than 3 lakh cases on a daily basis consecutively for the second time. Situation there is extremely worse. India is the second worst hit country from COVID-19. United States still tops the list. If the cases continue to rise in India as they are doing now, then India could add about a million cases in just 3 days. This is the first time since the outbreak of COVID-19 when any nation is witnessing such a huge number of daily infections. The death in India is also rising. India is witnessing the second wave of the virus. During the first wave, the country handled the situation pretty well. But this time there is lack of management. Thursday also marked the 17th consecutive day that added more than a lakh new case. Healthcare facilities in India are being highly impacted. This can be clearly seen in the fatality rate. Since the past 10 days, India is witnessing more than 1000 deaths on a daily basis. There is lack of supply of oxygen. Remdesivir is also not available easily in the market. Since the last 3 days, more than 3000 people are losing their lives every day. COVID-19 has made a second comeback in India, and this time it is even more hazardous. In the past 10 days, more than 15,000 people have lost their lives due to COVID-19 or its related complications. Maharashtra is the worst hit state in India. On Thursday, 67,013 new cases were reported from there. Uttar Pradesh (34,379), Kerala (26,995), Delhi (26,169) and Karnataka (25,795) are the other states that recorded more than 25,000 daily cases. Chhattisgarh recorded 16,750 new infections. States like Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Gujrat and West Bengal reported less than 15,000 cases. Jharkhand, Odisha, Haryana, Punjab and Telangana recorded cases between 5000-10,000. Tally in Goa, Uttarakhand, J&K and Himachal Pradesh was between 1000-5000. Maharashtra is also leading the country in terms of fatality with 568 new deaths on Thursday. Delhi reported 306 deaths. Chhattisgarh witnessed 207 deaths. Uttar Pradesh (195), Gujrat (137) and Karnataka (123) also reported more than 100 deaths a day. Vaccination campaign started in India in January. Healthcare workers and front-line workers were vaccinated in the first phase. Then, older adults above the age of 65 in the second phase. In phase 3, adults above 45 years were eligible for vaccination. And now, from May 1, everyone above the age of 18 will be eligible for vaccination in India.
