However, people are asked to leave their houses only when necessary. And when they do, they are required to cover their faces. The city is seeing a surge in COVID-19 Delta variant cases. New South Wales recorded 642 new infections on Friday. Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced that masks are mandatory outdoors except while exercising. Besides that, he has also implemented curfews in worst-hit COVID-19 areas.

What did the Authorities Say?

Premier Berejiklian addressed the media and spoke about the COVID-19 situation in Sydney. He stated that four more people have lost their lives and the number of infections is rising daily. Therefore, he has asked people to go through short-term pain in order to protect their lives. However, people need to stay inside their homes for a few weeks in order to make the situation better. Besides that, he also said that there are no other than strict restrictions to combat the Delta variant. Until and unless the vaccination rates go up in the country, he cannot risk the lives of hundreds and thousands of people.

More than 26 million people in Australia are under lockdown currently. The situation in the country is constantly deteriorating. Besides that, the vaccination rates in the country are also quite low. So far, only 22 percent of the country’s total population is fully vaccinated. The Australian Prime Minister, Scott Morrison has also warned people that they will have to live with the Delta variant indefinitely.

Addressing the lockdown, Australian authorities said that they will see more cases every day. New infections will arrive and more people will die, but they can’t implement lockdown forever. Henceforth, people need to get themselves vaccinated as soon as possible so that they don’t fall severely ill. Moreover, New South Wales will not ease the restrictions even if their vaccination rates improve. Similarly, Sydney will also not ease its restrictions anytime soon. People will have to cope up with the present scenario and learn to live with it.
