Spotify on Wednesday launched a live audio app called Greenroom. This is the Swedish online music streaming platform’s answer to Clubhouse. Users can join the room live or even host one if they want to. The live audio app is quite similar to Clubhouse. Moreover, the clubhouse is one of the most popular live audio apps. People socialize virtually and get to know more people.

Greenroom, Spotify’s Live Audio Application

Spotify launched Greenroom after it attained Betty Labs. Betty Labs is the company behind the popular sports-focused audio platform Locker Room. Podcasts and live audio streaming platforms are getting popular these days.

However, the most common amongst all is the San-Francisco-based Clubhouse. It has managed to gain a huge fan following in a short period of time. Since December, over 18 million people have downloaded Clubhouse worldwide. Besides Spotify, several tech giants have jumped into the live audio sector. Twitter launched Spaces in December and Facebook introduced Live Audio Rooms. Spotify’s Greenroom also joined the community now.

Who is the Main Competition of these Live Audio Apps?

Several people have this question in mind that how do these platforms monetize their content. The main competition of these live audio platforms is Discord. Discord is offering live audio since 2015 and has over 140 million users worldwide. However, video game players are more interested in this application. Spotify’s Greenroom has an advantage as the app’s focus is already on music. They have recently launched their podcast feature too. Besides Greenroom, Spotify has launched three new features last month. Firstly, buttons with increased readability. Secondly, text resizing options. And thirdly, a beta for podcast transcripts.

Spotify’s New Updates for its Users Besides Greenroom

The new features will launch in Spotify’s new update for both Android and iOS users. Most probably, the new update will release in a few weeks. However, users can avail the transcript feature only in Spotify’s original podcasts for now. But the app is planning to include in all podcasts in the future. Greenroom is Spotify’s good initiative. Live audio rooms are getting popular among people these days. Spotify also announced that it will soon let people download playlists and podcasts on Wear OS devices.
