Sony has unveiled its Airpeak drone before the company launched a new business targeted for professional photography and video production in the spring of 2021.
The drone project was initially announced back in November via a press release, but Sony clearly wanted to wait for a special occasion like CES to debut it in all its glory.
The new drone, part of AI Robotics, is the world’s smallest drone capable of carrying a state-of-the-art Alpha camera system.
“In order to fully support the creativity of video creators, the payload of the drone can be equipped with an Alpha mirrorless camera to capture high quality, full-frame aerial photography, and video,” Sony said in a statement during the CES 2021 on Tuesday.
Not many details have emerged from Airpeak but Sony is already using the drone to film landscape and city shots.
The company also showcased the Airpeak working as a chase camera for footage of its Vision-S concept car.
Sony has been a leading player when it comes to cameras for photography and videography.
The first Airpeak will be launched in the spring of this year. According to Sony, its aircraft will be the world’s smallest drone carrying Alpha camera system. The company says their “goal is to further develop today’s drone technology while achieving the utmost in value creation.”
Airpeak Drone’s Features
- The drone will be equipped with an Alpha mirrorless camera to capture high-quality images and videos.
- The aircraft features a rectangular central body with a gimbal.
- The legs retract upwards after the drone takes off to allow the camera to rotate 360 degrees.
- Built with a quadcopter design, each of the arms sports a propeller, a motor, and a rotor.
- The Airpeak can be capable of dynamic filming, stabilized videos, and everything of decent quality that is expected from a camera paired with drone technology.
The battery and flight time of Sony’s first aircraft is yet to be revealed and we will be looking forward to these details. The reason being is that the company is calling it an ultra-compact drone
The only demoting aspect with a smaller aircraft is the image quality. If Sony can offer superior photos and videos with its first Airpeak, users would certainly want to try it out.
The company mentioned that it will continue to post information related to the Airpeak brand.
Sony Airpeak drone will be launched in Spring this year.
Airpeak is still a work in progress. Sony plans to continue testing it, putting it through its paces by “engaging in co-creation activities” in an effort to gain as much feedback as possible for the final version.
