Riverdale Season 5: Release Date
Riverdale Season 5 is indeed happening. CW announced the show will come back for a fifth season in January 2020.
After a person working in the crew came in close contact with a COVID-19 positive person, the production was suspended. This led to the incompletion of the final two episodes of Season 4. The producers later said that the three episodes of Season 4 will be aired with the latest season.
Filming for Riverdale Season 5 started on September 14, 2020. Although, filming stopped again due to the fear of Coronavirus. The filming has since resumed.
Netflix has announced that Riverdale Season 5 is set to premiere on January 20, 2021. If the team doesn’t face any other struggle due to Coronavirus, then we can see the gang back early next year.
Who will be back?
KJ Apa, Lili Reinhart, Cole Sprouse, and Camila Mendes are guaranteed to return as our four leads, Archie, Betty, Jughead, and Veronica, respectively. Without them, Riverdale will never feel the same.
Reports also suggest that Skeet Ulrich and Marisol Nichols won’t come back for the next season. Ashleigh Murray, who portrays Josi in the first three seasons was not a significant part of Season 4. She will soon be seen in a new spin-off Katy Keene and will probably not come back. We do hope to see more crossovers though.
Other returning Riverdale cast include:
- Kevin Keller – Casey
- Vanessa Morgan – Toni
- Cheryl Blossom – Madelaine
- Charles Melton – Reggie
- Drew Ray Tanner- Fangs
- Mark Consuleos – Hiram
Season 5 will also add Erinn Westbrook of Glee fame. She is set to portray Tabitha Tate in Riverdale Season 5.
Riverdale Season 5: Potential Plot
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa said that the cast and crew had filmed more than half of a prom episode. This was supposed to be the 20th episode of the fourth season. We are expecting to see it in Riverdale Season 5. Sacasa has described the episode as ‘really classic Riverdale’.
Some reports suggest a time-jump will occur after the first three episodes. The plan was essential to introduce the time jump between the seasons. With the characters aiming for different colleges, it is evident that the time-jump will skip their college life.
It’s still unsure how Riverdale Season 5 going to unfold. We expect to see a lot of drama at the beginning and maybe the repercussions after a long time. Reports also suggest a crossover episode with Katy Keene, which is very likely.
