There are a lot of rumors surrounding Prison Break Season 6. Conflicting reports about a sixth season seem to be found everywhere. The last time we saw Michael Scofield and Lincoln Burrows was in 2017. So will there be a new season? Well, we don’t know but one of the cast members seem pretty positive about it.

Prison Break first premiered on Fox in 2005 and became a massive hit with the audience. It ran for four seasons and ended in 2009. With a visible dip in quality over the four seasons, fans of the show kept clinging for a revival and finally in 2017, we had a new season. This new season, Prison Break: Resurrection consisted of 9 episodes and left the fans divided. The final episode saw our lead, Michael Scofield win immunity for his crimes and return back to his home. But this wasn’t enough for the fans and they wanted more.
Many reports have since come out and whether there will be more Prison Break is still a mystery. Here is all the reported news we know about Prison Break Season 6.
Will there be a Prison Break Season 6?
Back in 2016, creator Paul Scheuring said that the 2017 revival will be the end of Prison Break. But even then, series lead Wentworth Miller said that he would love to come back again. In a press event at San-Diego Comic-Con, he said, “There’s always room for more, in my mind. As long as it’s a story that’s worth telling, as long as it feels justified and cool and edgy.”
The first-ever reports of Prison Break Season 6 came from Variety in January 2018 where they mentioned that Fox is developing a new iteration for the show. Later that year, Miller said that the future of Prison Break depended on how the revival was received and who would be available.
Scheuring was still adamant about not bringing it back. After the revival came to an end, Scheuring told Entertainment Weekly in an interview that he saw the revival as the ending for Prison Break.
“I know that the actors are very keen on doing it, but at this very moment, I don’t have an idea what it would be. It’s possible it could come from other sources, but right now there’s nothing in the old noggin.”, said Scheuring. Scheuring’s stance has since softened as he mentioned in numerous interviews that he would do it if he finds the right story. He said, “We’re not going to just redo it to do it again. We want the audience to feel like it’s of a high standard.”
FOX later announced in 2017 that they are considering more episodes for Prison Break Season 6. However, FOX later announced the same year that they are not working on a new season.

Then in 2019, Prison Break writers shared a tweet that said that Prison Break Season 6 is not in the cards. This came a year after another one of their tweets where they mentioned that a new iteration of Prison Break is in the works.
Dominic Purcell, who portrays Lincoln Burrows is pretty optimistic about another season. He has shared numerous times his feelings about a new season. Most recently, he took to Instagram and revealed that a new season is definitely in the works. Purcell has since deleted the post.
Plot, Cast, and Release Date
Plot: The 2017 revival saw Michael finally returning home and having a happy ending. Scheuring has said that the fifth season was based on the story of Odysseus and he won’t do anything if he doesn’t have another solid story.
Cast: Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell are the two pillars of the show and without them, there wouldn’t be any Prison Break. The two were also seen sharing screen in DC’s The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow. Fans would also love to see Robert Knepper and Amaury Nolasco return as T-Bag and Sucre respectively. Rockmond Dunbar, Inbar Lavi, and Sarah Wayne Callies could also appear in a new season.
Release Date: So far there is no news about the release date. Although Purcell made a Facebook post in August with the text “Hearing October”. Fans speculated that this was the start of filming for the new season. With the ongoing pandemic, it’s hard to confirm any other news. If a new season starts filming this month, we could be expecting a late 2021 release.
