In an exclusive one-on-one conversation with the media, Prince Harry of Britain said he quit royal life as the British press was “destroying” his mental health and disclosed that he watches “The Crown”.
In an active bus city tour with “The Late Late Show” host James Corden, Harry offered an insightful glimpse into his young family’s fresh start in Los Angeles.
“We all know what the British press can be like, and it was destroying my mental health,” said Harry. He last year, relocated to the United States with his wife Meghan Markle.
“I was, like, this is toxic. So I did what any husband and any father would do. I need to get my family out of here.”
“It was never walking away. It was stepping back rather than stepping down. It was a really difficult environment.” Harry, 36, told Corden.
The royal family of Britain was rocked by Harry and Markle’s surprise declaration in January of 2020 that they will be moving out from royal status, called “Mexit” by British newspapers.
Harry has had a tense relationship with the tabloids in Britain for a long time. He blamed press interference for contributing to the loss of his mother Princess Diana, in a 1997 car accident.
Markle won a high-profile privacy case against Associated Newspapers for posting a private letter she sent to her estranged father earlier this month.
More About The Talk With Harry:
In the hit Netflix series “The Crown,” Harry said he was “more comfortable” with the depiction of the royal family than he was with media articles published about him or the family.
“They don’t pretend to be news. It’s fictional,” Harry said of the show.
“It’s loosely based on the truth. Of course, it’s not strictly accurate, but it gives you a rough idea about what that lifestyle, what the pressures of putting duty and service above family and everything else, what can come from that.”
He also announced that in the future season, he would like to see the actor Damian Lewis play him. He is sixth in line to the throne.
During the casual conversation, the prince confirmed that it was his very first ride on an open-top bus.
Harry and Corden paid a visit to the house where the hit US TV show “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” was filmed in the 1990s. They dialed Markle’s phone, who addressed Harry as “Haz.”
Harry said he and the Queen and Prince Philip had Zoomed in order for them to see their very cut great-grandson, Archie.
The prince announced that “crocodile” was Archie’s first word and that for Christmas, the Queen had given Archie a waffle maker.
Evenings at their Santa Barbara home were also mentioned by Harry.
“Depending on how the day’s been and how busy it’s been, we do Archie’s tea, give him a bath, read him a book, put him down, go downstairs.
“Meg might cook a meal, might order a takeaway, go upstairs sit in bed, turn the TV on, watch some Jeopardy, maybe watch a little bit of Netflix,” the prince said.
