US President Joe Biden communicated with citizens on the auspicious occasion of Independence Day on Sunday. America is slowly and steadily moving to the pre-Covid world. But there are hindrances in between like the new emerging Delta variant. Wearing a face mask is no longer compulsory in the US if you are fully vaccinated. The economy is opened and things have got back as they were before the pandemic. However, the rising cases of Delta Variant are a bit concerning.
US President Joe Biden Contrasts Freedom
President Joe Biden addressed a crowd of almost 100 people in front of the White House lawn. Very smartly, he compared the independence from the British and the virus. He said that America hailed freedom from the British in 1776. And now they are battling for freedom against COVID-19. He said that two hundred and forty years ago, the US declared independence from a distant king. And now, they are closer to declare freedom from a deadly virus. Several military members, essential workers, etc. were a part of the crowd on July 4, Sunday.
COVID-19 has Not Yet Vanquished
The American President said that they have gained the upper hand against COVID-19. But the battle is not yet over. COVID-19 has not yet vanquished. The virus is mutating around the world, and the most concerning variant is the Delta variant. President Joe Biden further paid tribute to all those people who lost their lives due to COVID-19. So far, more than 600,000 people have died in the United States due to the virus.
This Year’s Celebrations were Different from Last Year’s
Last year, on Independence Day, COVID-19 was at its peak in the country. Moreover, racism protests were going on in the United States. On the other hand, this year the situations are different. Large crowds gathered at the National Mall to witness the display of fireworks. Amid these situations, President Joe Biden is concerned about those people who are not yet vaccinated. So far, only 46 percent of total Americans are fully vaccinated. There is a long way to go.
