PM Modi chaired a meeting on Thursday regarding cyclone Yaas and its impact. Yaas is the second cyclone in a week that is hampering the Indian coastal region. The Prime Minister advised officials to work closely on the cyclone’s aftermath. He has asked them to ensure that life gets back to normal as soon as possible.
PM Modi to Visit Odisha and West Bengal
PM Modi will on Friday assess the damage caused in Odisha and West Bengal due to cyclone Yaas. These two coastal states are highly hampered by the cyclonic storm. Both these states have witnessed heavy property damage. The Prime Minister will land in Bhubaneshwar on Friday. He will then hold a review meeting. After the review meeting, he will conduct an ariel survey of Odisha’s Bhadrak and Balasore. Later he will assess the situation in West Bengal’s Medinipur. Thereafter, he will hold a review meeting in West Bengal.
Severe Damage Caused Due to the Cyclonic Storm
Cyclone Yaas have brought severe damage to Odisha and West Bengal. Some areas faced a complete blackout. Although, power services are restored in certain regions. The cyclone destroyed many houses in the coastal region. More than 2500 trees and poles had fallen in the storm. 106 teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were sent to Odisha and West Bengal. More than 1000 people were rescued and shifted to a safer place. According to experts, mass evacuation saved many lives. PM Modi will assess the situation on Friday closely.
Some Regions Witnessed Landfalls
However, the cyclone did not make landfall. But many houses and bridges were ruined due to heavy storms. The Indian Meteorological Department had predicted severe damage. The cyclone caused the sea surge up to four meters. In some coastal regions like Bhadrak and Balasore, it did make landfall. PM Modi will conduct an ariel survey of these two regions. Over 1 million people were evacuated from low-lying regions in the affected states.
