PM Modi is all set to make a big announcement on World Environment Day, 2021. We celebrate this day on June 5 every year. This year’s theme is ‘Promotion of biofuels for a better environment’. However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to release a special report on this day. Besides that, he will also inaugurate new ethanol stations in Maharashtra.
PM Modi to Set-up Ethanol Stations in Pune
PM Modi is going to release a report on ethanol bleeding in India 2020-2025 on June 5, 2021. He has chosen World Environment Day to present this report. Besides that, he will inaugurate 3 E100 ethanol dispensing stations in Pune, Maharashtra. Moreover, the government will also release the E-20 notification. The E-20 notification will allow oil companies to sell 20 percent ethanol blended petrol from 2023. It is shifted to 2023 to reduce India’s dependency on costly oil imports. Earlier the deadline was 2030. But now, it is cut short to 2025. He will also release the BIS specifications for higher ethanol blends E12 and E15. Fuel prices in India are sky-high presently. India is the third-largest oil importer. Maximum petroleum products in the country are imported. The government aims at reducing the import. So that, fuel prices in India go down.
Why is the Setup so Important?
PM Modi is inaugurating these plants for a big cause. Not only they will add to ethanol distillation plants in the country, but they will also increase ethanol consumption in various regions. The government wants more ethanol consumption in manufacturing states before 2025. However, the prime minister will conduct an all-virtual meeting for the same. In this meeting, he will release the report. He will also interact with farmers in the meeting. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, the Environment Ministry, Forest, and, Climate Change will join the meeting.
