PM Modi Speaks to Joe Biden over Phone Amid Surge in Cases

India is witnessing a huge surge in the number of daily COVID-19 cases. PM Narendra Modi is holding virtual meetings, discussions, telephonic calls, etc. with officials to bring out some solution. India is running out of raw materials that are required for vaccine production. On this issue, PM Modi had a telephonic conversation with US President Joe Biden. PM Modi Urges Biden for Help  

A few days ago, PM Modi urged the American President to supply raw materials to India for vaccine production. However, at that time Biden denied the request saying that Americans are his first priority. But now, since the situation in India is deteriorating, PM Modi again requested Biden over a telephonic conversation. The latter agreed this time seeing India’s current situation. Times are very critical for India right now. Oxygen, Remdesivir, and other raw materials are all not available here. With America’s and Biden’s support, the COVID-19 vaccine supply chain would be regulated.

The Telephonic Conversation 

During the telephonic conversation, both Modi and Biden discussed the pathetic situation of COVID-19 in India. They both exchanged assurances on smoothing out the vaccine supply chain in India. President Biden assured PM Modi that the US would be providing every possible help to India in order to tackle the situation. India is witnessing a massive second wave of pandemic with more than 3 lakh cases a day. The death toll also surpasses 2000 on a daily basis. Moreover, the two leaders discussed the COVID-19 situation in their respective countries. Besides that, they also discussed their efforts in defeating the virus. Apart from raw materials, the US will also provide critical medicines, ventilators, and other medical supplies to India.

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) issued a statement stating that the Prime Minister had a successful conversation with US President, Joe Biden. He also discussed India’s initiative at World Trade Organization (WTO). They had a fruitful discussion on smoothing the supply of raw materials for the production of COVID-19 vaccines. PM Modi thanked Biden cordially for his support towards India in such tough times.

India is the largest vaccine manufacturer in the entire world. A lot of countries are dependent on India for vaccine supply. However, India lacks raw materials and that is why it asked the US for help.
