Is Overlord Renewed for Season 4?
Overlord season 4 was renewed on May 8, 2021. Yes, the show is returning for a fourth installment. Season 3 ended way back in 2018. After almost 3 years, the anime is finally returning. However, this time gap isn’t new for Overlord fans. They are used to it. Kugane Maruyama, the show’s scriptwriter, hinted in 2019 that season 4 is likely to happen.
Overlord Season 4 Release Date
So far, we don’t have an official release date for Overlord Season 4. As mentioned above, the scriptwriter already hinted at the renewal in 2019. It is rumored that the production began in Spring 2020. But was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Hopefully, we will hear some good news soon. Since the renewal is officially announced, we expect it to release before 2021 ends. Madhouse has revealed nothing except for the renewal status.
Do we have a Trailer Yet?
No, we don’t have a trailer yet. Since Overlord season 4 is just renewed; it is too early to expect a trailer. We expect to see a trailer a month or two before the premiere. It seems the fans will have to wait a little longer.
Overlord Season 3 Recap
Just like all other seasons, Overlord season 3 had 13 episodes. In the final episode, Ainz kills Gazeff and gets brief control over E-Rantel. The fight lasted for a very short duration. Gazeff stands nowhere in Ainz’s league. Brain and Climb are highly disappointed after Gazeff’s death. Momon is now the city in charge. But, Momon does as Ainz says. He will report anything that is against Ainz. Ainz witnesses new powers. Jircniv is surprised after this incident. Fans were extremely overwhelmed with the season 3 finale and demanded more. They have high expectations from Overlord season 4.
Source Material
Source materials play an important role in the amine series. Most anime series are adapted from either light novels or manga. Overlord is adapted from a light novel of the same name. There are currently 14 Overlord light novels released in Japan. It also got a manga based on the light novels. So far, the manga series has published 14 books. The Overlord light novels are still in progress. Moreover, the latest one was released in March 2020. Kugane Maruyama, the author wrote one volume each in 2017, 2018, and 2020. He wrote none in 2019. Maruyama said that he plans to finish Overlord with book 17. There is enough source material for Overlord season 4.
Expected Plot for Overlord Season 4
So far, the Overlord series has covered a total of nine volumes of light novels. And there is a total of 14 volumes at present. That means Overlord season 4 will cover the five remaining volumes. Firstly, Volume 10 is titled ‘The Ruler of Conspiracy’. We can expect the story to take over from this section. It focuses on Ainz and his decision to turn his kingdom into a paradise. He starts working on building his Utopia. Moreover, the tenth volume also deals with other ruler’s stories.
They are conspiring against Ainz and his paradise. Besides that, they are not happy with the sudden emergence of such a strong empire. Henceforth, they make several plans to destroy Ainz’s kingdom. They also plot against Ainz. Secondly, Volume 11 is titled ‘The Craftsman of Dwarf’. In this volume, Ainz sets off to a land of dwarfs in search of lost rune magic. He finds that the dwarf kingdom is in danger. Therefore, he helps them out. Now, Volume 12 is titled, ‘The Paladin of the Holy kingdom’. Henceforth, we have quite a lot for Overlord season 4.
