By now we don’t need to say anything about Narcos. The show has become one of Netflix’s most popular shows and received widespread acclaim along with its spin-off Narcos: Mexico. While Narcos was about the rising cocaine empire of Pablo Escobar in Colombia, Narcos: Mexico follows the drug-trade in, you guessed it, Mexico. Narcos: Mexico has met with the same popularity and acclaim as its parent series. After the events of Season 2, fans cannot wait to see the new empire that will be set up in Narcos: Mexico Season 3.
So when is the third season coming out? We have all the necessary details.
Also, a friendly reminder. Spoilers ahead!

Through their official Twitter account, the creators have confirmed that Narcos: Mexico Season 3 is indeed happening and will come soon.
Netflix hasn’t released any official release dates as of yet. The news of renewal came just a few days back and news on filming or production is not out yet.
Who will be back?
Since we have the good news of Narcos: Mexico Season 3 happening, it’s time for the bad news. Netflix has also announced that Diego Luna, who portrayed Ángel Félix Gallardo and was also the lead for the first two seasons, won’t be coming back.
In an interview with Indiewire, Luna said that he needed a break from Narcos. He said, “I need rest, those two years were intense for me”.
While Season 1 saw him rising through the ranks, Season 2 saw his eventual downfall as we see him lose his power and friends. Gallardo finally ends up in jail at the end of Season 2.
Additionally, Netflix has announced the return of the following cast members for Narcos: Mexico Season 3:
- Scoot McNairy – Walt Breslin
- Jose Maria Yazpik – Amado Carrillo Fuentes
- Alberto Ammann – Hélmer Herrera aka Pacho
- Alfonso Dosal – Benjamín Arellano Félix
- Mayra Hermosillo – Enedina Arellano Félix
- Matt Letscher – Jaime Kuykendall
- Manuel Masalva – Ramón Arellano Félix
- Alejandro Edda – Joaquín Guzmán aka El Chapo
- Gorka Lasaosa – Héctor Luis Palma Salazar
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Puerto-Rican rapper Bad Bunny said that he is also going to appear in the third season.
Narcos: Mexico Season 3: Potential Plot
Narcos: Mexico Season 3 is likely to follow the chaos that escalates after the breaking of the alliance of the Guadalajara Cartel. This is due to his Gallardo’s arrest at the end of Season 2. In real life, Gallardo’s arrest triggers disputes among the cartels trying to take over. This eventually leads to the infamous Mexican Drug War.
At the end of Season 2, Gallardo also tells DEA agent Breslin (Scoot McNairy) that Fuentes will become the strongest opponent in the future. Safe to say, José María Yazpik will be a much more significant player in the third season.
Season 3 will also have a new showrunner. The former showrunner of both Narcos and Narcos: Mexico, Eric Newman will now serve as an executive producer. His partner, Carlo Bernard will helm the third season.
Narcos: Mexico Season 3 will also see the return of Wagner Moura. Except, he won’t return as Pablo Escobar. Reportedly, Moura will direct two episodes for the latest season.
