Mumbai police have a lot of work to do these days. Juggling the entire journalism sector is definitely no cup of tea. On October 8, 2020, Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh broke the internet when he brought forward names of channels involved in rigging TRPs. The names include two Marathi channels, Fakt Marathi and Box Cinema, and a renowned channel, Republic TV. Republic TV is in heat currently. Where people want Arnab Goswami to show the truth, he is pretty much blaming others. He, in fact, alleged that he will bring Param Bir Singh to court over false allegations. In the ongoing case, the Mumbai police summoned the presence of the channel’s CFO today. However, he asked to reschedule the dates due to “personal commitments”.
Mumbai Police asked to reschedule the dates
Republic TV Chief Finacial officer, Shiva Subramaniyam Sundaram, asked the Mumbai police to reschedule the summon date. He said that he had some personal commitments due to which he is not able to appear on October 10, 2020. Republic TV’s CFO previously stated that it gives a commitment to cooperate with the police. However, on the other hand, the channel also wants to challenge the Mumbai police in court. In a statement, the CFO requested, “The petition will likely be listed soon. So, Mumbai Police is requested to not proceed with any further investigation in so far as republic TV and its employees are concerned.”
He furthermore said that he will be available in Mumbai only on two dates, October 14 and October 15. Mumbai Police also asked two employees of Box Cinema and Fakt Marathi and four others to appear before the Central Intelligence Unit. The summoning statement read, “It is necessary to record your statements on the issue. So, remain present before the undersigned at police headquarters at 11 AM.”
The verdict of the TRP manipulation scam
The TRP scam came into notice when the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) reported that the TRP ratings are getting rigged. The Mumbai police then investigated the Television Rating Points scam. Furthermore, the above-listed channels came out as the suspects. Arnab Goswami has strongly refuted the claims. People who watch Republic TV have also supported him actively saying that they didn’t get any Rs.500.
This scam also piqued the rivalry of Republic TV with India Today. The latter is chasing Arnab Goswami to explain the issue.

However, the police investigation is ongoing to find out the exact involvement of the Republic TV and the other channels.
