Money Heist or La casa de Papel is a Spanish heist drama. It follows a crew of bank robbers led by a mysterious man named ‘The Professor’. He recruits eight people from various backgrounds and ages. All of them have cities for code-names and carry out a meticulously crafted plan that leads to them robbing the Royal Mint of Spain and then the Bank of Spain.

So is Money Heist Season 5 coming back to Netflix? Let’s find out.

Also, a friendly reminder. Spoilers ahead.

Money Heist Season 5: Release Date

It is no surprise that Money Heist is coming back for another season. With its massive popularity, there is no way Netflix is going to back down on a show with such global appeal. The show has also broken numerous records since its premiere on Netflix and has gone on to garner more audience every day. Money Heist also holds the record of being the most-watched Foreign language TV show on Netflix.

Seasons 1 and 2 were initially part of a single series that aired on the Spanish network Antena 3 from May to November 2017. Netflix acquired the show later that year and re-cut them into 22 shorter episodes. They released them as two seasons, Season 1 on December 20, 2017, and Season 2 on April 6, 2018.

After the show found popularity in the streaming platform, they greenlit the show for two new seasons.

Part 4 or Season 4 of Money Heist premiered on April 3, 2020, and garnered an incredible 65 million views. Netflix also released a documentary that follows the making and the massive rise in popularity on the same day. The documentary is called ‘Money Heist: The Phenomenon’ and is available on Netflix.

But yeah, Money Heist Season 5 is indeed happening. Netflix officially confirmed Season 5 or Part 5 in a tweet on July 31.

The fifth season is expected to premiere in 2021 and is in the pre-production stage. The shooting was also momentarily delayed due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. But it seems like production has resumed. Furthermore, in an interview with Deadline, creator Alex Pina said that Season 5 is coming but he couldn’t comment any further as he said, “Netflix will put a bomb in my house.” (He is joking, of course!)

Pina also posted a photo on Instagram in July 2020 where he confirmed that he is writing Money Heist Season 5.

Money Heist: Korean Remake

Furthermore, on November 30, Variety reported that Netflix is going to create a Korean remake of the show. Kim Hong-sun wiill serve as the director and original creator Alex Pina will serve as an executive producer.

Regarding the remake, Pina said, “Korean creators have been developing their own language and audiovisual culture for years. They have managed, like our series, to go beyond cultural borders and become a point of reference for thousands of viewers around the world, especially among young people.”

Who will be back?

Many cast members have confirmed their arrival in Money Heist Season 5.

Álvaro Morte who portrays The Professor took to Instagram on July 21 to announce his return. His caption read, “I’m back. The Professor is back.”

A big exit from the show in the last season was Nairobi’s. Alba Flores hasn’t revealed anything about her return. Fans were shocked to see her die in the final season and many still haven’t recovered yet. Will Flores come back for a cameo in Money Heist Season 5? We can just wait to find out.

Trust us, we also can’t get over Nairobi’s death at the end of Season 4. Fans anticipate her return in any form.

Season 4 ended with some huge cliffhangers.

At the end of Season 4, we see Sierra finding out the Professor’s hideout and holds him at gunpoint. It then cuts to black with a new rendition of ‘Bella Ciao’.

There’s also another big question. Did the gang escape from the roof? And even if they escape, how are they going to get back to their lives, now that all their identities are out in the open.

This will also be the final season of the show so expect a lot happening in the new season.

All this and more will be answered in Money Heist Season 5.
