If you think India’s struggle with COVID-19 vaccines is over, you are probably wrong. Recently, India witnessed a good vaccination rate and it felt that things are back on track. But still, there is a long way to go. Maharashtra, the worst-hit COVID-19 state is still dealing with a vaccine shortage.
Maharashtra Needs More COVID-19 Vaccines to Inoculate its Entire Population
In order to inoculate its entire population, Maharashtra needs a minimum of three crore COVID-19 vaccines daily. Health Minister, Rajesh Tope highlighted the fact in an interview on Monday. Besides that, he said that the state needs more jabs to vaccinate its entire population as early as possible. Maharashtra needs to inoculate 15 lakh, people, every day. But that is not happening at the present moment.
Vaccination Drive Slow Enough to Inoculate Citizens at the Earliest
Maharashtra has received 3.60 crore COVID-19 vaccines from the central government so far. However, the state needs to vaccinate 15 lakh people a day, but they are only vaccinating two to three lakh people on a daily basis. They received seven lakh doses three days ago and they were all exhausted on Monday, July 12. As of Sunday, Maharashtra has administered 3,65,25,990 Covid jabs so far. Meanwhile, if they compare the state’s population, this data is quite low. The state needs to vaccinate more and more people in order to curb the virus spread.
Health Minister Accuses the Centre of Supply of COVID-19 Vaccines
Maharashtra’s health minister very clearly targeted the Centre for the state’s vaccination drive. He said that if they receive proper COVID-19 vaccines from the government, they can easily vaccinate their entire population very soon. Moreover, he said that it is a hand-to-mouth situation. They are trying their level best to vaccinate the citizens but are failing due to vaccine paucity. However, the state is also buying vaccines directly from the manufacturers.
Maharashtra’s COVID-19 Situation
The COVID-19 situation in Maharashtra is stable than before. Maharashtra reported 8,535 fresh cases on Sunday with 156 casualties. The state’s current toll accounts to 61,57,799 with 1,25,878 deaths. As mentioned above, the state’s vaccination drive is going slow. The only problem is the shortage of COVID-19 vaccines. However, the state is trying to fix this problem in order to vaccinate its population as soon as possible.
