Reports Suggest Life Expectancy in the US has Lurched due to the Pandemic

Life expectancy in the US has seen a sharp increase in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It is the worst record in the country since 2003. Besides that, it is the biggest one-year rise since the second World war. During that time, life expectancy in the country fell 2.9 percent between 1942 and 1943. However, the CDC has warned the citizens against this increasing life expectancy rate in the country.

What did the CDC Say in this Matter?

The CDC is extremely concerned about the growing life expectancy in the US. Elizabeth Arias, a CDC researcher said that it feels as if they have lost a decade. This many numbers of people rarely died in a one-year span. Undoubtedly, so many people succumbed to the virus. However, the pandemic isn’t over yet and people are still dying. There are chances that the life expectancy rates might rise again in the near future. Although, COVID-19 related deaths have slowed down in the US currently. But you never know. The deadly Delta variant is just a few steps closer to becoming the dominant COVID-19 variant in the country.

The Government is Taking Actions to Deal with the Situation

In order to curb the low life expectancy in the US, the government is taking several strict actions. Bill de Blasio, Mayor, New York City; suggested that public health workers will take a weekly Covid test.

Moreover, they should get vaccinated as soon as possible. Besides that, President Joe Biden has urged American citizens to get vaccinated soon in order to save the country. President Biden stated that vaccination is compulsory to uplift the country’s economy. And now it seems, it will decrease the expectancy rates as well.
