India can expect 2 billion doses of Covid vaccines between August and December. The Indian Government unveiled the roadmap for vaccine supply in the country. Currently, there is a vaccine shortage in India.
India Seeks Global Help for Production of Covid Vaccines
Covid vaccines in India are crippled at the moment. Moreover, the supply is extremely narrow, and global help is immediately needed. The Centre said that it has spoken to three global vaccine manufacturers recently. India is seeking global help now. The authorities have spoken to Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson manufacturers. However, the pharma giants assured that they will provide the vaccines in 2021’s third quarter. If this happens, over 2 billion vaccines could become available in India between August and December.
2 Billion Doses to be Available in India in August-December Period
Dr. V.K. Paul, India’s COVID-19 Task Force Head announced the news. He stated that they have contacted the global manufactures. And received a positive response. They sought information on vaccine availability between August to December period. Approximately 216 crore Covid vaccines would become available in India soon.
Paul informed that the government has formally approached Pfizer, Moderna, and J&J. India will assist them in every possible way. Their Covid vaccines will soon get administered in India. He further added that the Ministry of External Affairs was constantly in touch with the three companies. India will also find partners to assist the pharma giants. They might also manufacture Covid vaccines in India.
Availability of Vaccines in India
The three companies have stated that they don’t have free capacity at the moment. It would take them a few months. They have a plan and are moving alongside it. But they will think over the issue in 2021 Q3. We can expect more vaccines between August to December 2021. The companies might also send their technologies to India. India is going through a vaccine shortage. Their technologies will boost up Covid vaccine production. Currently, there are 7.30 crore Covid vaccines for India’s vaccination drive in May. The states will procure 1.27 crore doses. On the other hand, private hospitals will procure 80 lakh doses.
