Last Man Standing is an American sitcom created by Jack Burditt for ABC.
The series revolves around Mike Baxter, a senior executive at a sporting goods store chain, and a father to three daughters and his family life, which also includes his grandson and other men who are either married to his daughters or are dating them.
The series originally aired on ABC from 2011 to 2017 for six seasons and entered syndication in 2015.
Despite being ABC’s second-highest rated sitcom for the 2016–17 season, the network declined to renew Last Man Standing for a seventh season.
One year later, Fox announced it had picked up the show for a seventh season, which premiered on 28th September 2018.
In May 2020, Fox renewed the series for a ninth and final season which is set to premiere on January 3, 2021.
The Plot of Season 9 (Spoiler Alert!!):
In the Season 8 finale, Eve comes back home for a weekend visit, while Vanessa tries to re-create a childhood tradition for her daughters.
The Baxter family is expecting two additions to the family since Mandy is pregnant with her first child, and Kristin goes into labor with her baby daughter.
Season 9 will showcase the family living in a global pandemic. They will face hardships on the financial front as Outdoor Man and Bud’s Buds will be affected by the lockdown.
Mike and Ryan will start to acknowledge and appreciate each other’s points of view while they open up to the idea of learning from each other; Mandy is going to give birth to a baby girl, Sarah.
The series will then see a time jump to the year 2023 when the global pandemic has been resolved.
Mike and Vanessa will start to think about their future, while Mandy decides to take a break from work and give more time to her daughter, Kyle will work towards becoming a pastor. We may also see Eve more often in the upcoming season.
Season 9’s Cast:
The entire main cast will be back for season 9, including Allen, Nancy Travis (Vanessa), Amanda Fuller (Kristin), Molly McCook (Mandy), Christoph Sanders (Kyle), Jordan Masterson (Ryan), Adams (Chuck), Hector Elizondo (Ed), and Krista Marie Yu (Jen).
We’re also hoping that Kaitlyn Dever, who plays Eve, will be showing up more on the show.
Producer Tim Allen told TV guide “If she’s a fighter pilot for the Air Force, we’re not sure how much she’s allowed to see us. She’d be in Europe. We’d have to schedule it around her flight training. But my guess is, as much as possible, we’d have her on. We love her and we love to honor our military.”

Like many shows, Last Man Standing’s production schedule has been impacted by the pandemic, but fortunately, the filming went smoothly and the Last Man Standing season 9 is set to release on January 3, 2021, at 9:30 pm ET.
