Jordan warned Israel on Sunday to stop “barbaric” attacks on worshippers in the Jerusalem mosque. Meanwhile, the mosque is Jerusalem’s Al Aqsa mosque. It said in an official statement that it would step up international pressure. However, the kingdom has custodianship for both Muslim and Christian sites. Jordon urged Israel to respect worshippers and international law preserving Arab rights.
Holy Mosque Tensions in Jerusalem Ramp Up
Al Aqsa is the third-holiest Islam mosque. Due to East Jerusalem tensions, clashes are spilled between Israeli police and Palestinians. Firstly, the holy month of Ramadan is ongoing. Such tensions should not be created at this time. Secondly, Israeli Police and the special forces should not do what they are doing right now. Their barbaric or cruel behavior is rejected and condemned. Israel’s PM, Benjamin Netanyahu said that he is protecting the right of worship. They will not tolerate riots in compounds that house the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem.
Tensions in Jerusalem and West Bank
Frictions have mounted in Jerusalem and the West Bank region. Clashes in East Jerusalem’s Sheikh Jarrah have come into notice. Sheikh Jarrah is a neighborhood where several Palestinian families face expulsion. King Abdullah, who claims filial descent from Prophet Mohammad expressed his views. He said that the Israeli activities in the holy city were escalation. Besides that, he said to end such dangerous provocations. He further accused that Israel is trying to change the demographic status of Jerusalem. The holy city contains sacred sites to Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.
The Measures and Protests
Ayman Safadi, Jordanian minister said that they would give their best in protecting Palestinian rights. The kingdom lost East Jerusalem and West Bank in 1967 in the Arab-Israeli war. Israeli forces carry the responsibility for protecting Palestinian rights. Jordan has earlier provided the Palestinians with land deeds in Sheikh Jarrah. Therefore, Israeli settler claims are groundless. Moreover, the ejection of Palestinians from Sheikh Jarrah is a war crime. Several Jordanians protested near the Israeli Embassy in Amman. The crowd chanted ‘Death to Israel’. In addition, they demanded the dismissal of the Israeli ambassador. Many citizens in Jordan are Palestinians.
