Joe Biden called on world leaders to help end the COVID-19 pandemic. The American President asked the rich nations to expand their Covid vaccine production and availability so that they can make them available to the poorer countries. However, with the Delta variant now dominating the world, it is quite important for all the countries to vaccinate their vulnerable population.
Joe Biden Holds Virtual Summit with World Leaders
American President Joe Biden called on the leaders of the rich nations to expand their Covid vaccine production and availability. In his virtual summit with several world leaders and United Nations leaders, he called for a method to end the pandemic. Moreover, he expressed his concern for the poorer nations who are yet to receive the Covid vaccines. This comes after when the rich nations including the US are facing criticism for inoculating their citizens with a third booster shot.
Countries Introducing a Third Booster Jab for their Vulnerable Population
Several countries like the United States, Israel, Germany, etc. have started inoculating their vulnerable population with a third booster jab. The United Nations and the World Health Organization have highly criticized this decision. In a situation where vaccine availability is scarce for poorer nations, the rich countries must come forward to help rather than introducing a third jab. However, the WHO scientists have also stated that there is no need for a third vaccine at the present moment. But some countries are witnessing a positive decline in their Coronavirus cases; after vaccinating their adult population with a booster jab. Moreover, the global health bodies have stated that these rich countries must help poor nations overcome the pandemic. Joe Biden aims at inoculating at least 70 percent of the total world population before this year ends.
Biden’s Plan of Action
The fact that Joe Biden wants to inoculate at least 70 percent of the world population before 2021 ends seems a bit impractical. After a lot of discussions, he extended the duration to this time of the next year. However, that too is a bit difficult but not impossible if all the rich nations come together. A report from the anti-poverty group says that the world is not in a position to hit this target in the given time. Moreover, the American President has promised to donate 500 million more doses for the needy ones. He also stated the fact that they are not going to solve the crisis with half-measures. The world leaders need to go big and play their parts.
Joe Biden Led the Summit on Vaccinations
Several countries including Canada, South Africa, the United Kingdom, etc. attended the virtual summit. However, the summit was held behind closed doors. The White House didn’t release a single piece of information regarding any of the attendees. Moreover, there were four sessions in the summit, Joe Biden led one of them while Kamal Harris led another.
