Iran President, Hassan Rouhani warned the public in a press conference on Saturday. He himself is feared of the fifth COVID-19 wave; approaching the country. Therefore, he has asked the citizens to maintain their safety; and follow all the COVID-19 precautions. Iran may witness a fifth Covid wave anytime soon. Henceforth, the citizens are asked to follow all the guidelines and stay careful.
Iran President Hassan Rouhani Concerned About COVID-19 Fifth Wave
President Hassan Rouhani expressed his concern over the rising COVID-19 cases in Iran. He articulated his feelings in a press conference on Saturday. Iran can witness a new COVID-19 wave anytime soon; due to the Delta variant. First detected in India, the Delta variant has now become a global concern. Just like Iran, several other countries are also cautioned. Experts say that the Delta variant; is 50 percent more transmissible than other COVID-19 variants. It spreads faster, is more contagious, and can result in severe illness.
Delta Variant Cases Already Detected in Iran
The Delta variant is detected in Iran’s southern provinces. Authorities fear that it might spread in other regions as well. Therefore, President Hassan Rouhani; conducted a meeting with the anti-task force. In the meeting, he expressed his concern; over the growing COVID-19 cases in the country. Moreover, he said that he could sense the fifth wave. Although, health officials in Iran haven’t specified the fifth wave. But they have asked the citizens to take all the precautions. People are asked to follow the protocols and stay safe. Iran is one of the worst-hit COVID-19 countries; in the Middle East.
Tehran and Other Provinces Fall Under Red Zone
So far, 84,000 people have lost their lives due to COVID-19 in Iran. Besides that, 3.2 million people have also tested positive for the virus. However, the authorities admit the fact that official figures do not account for the total number of infections. There are some people who do not come forward after testing positive. Moreover, Tehran, the capital city is categorized under the red zone. The red zone is the highest category on Iran’s COVID-19 scale. President Hassan Rouhani expressed his concern over this issue as well. Besides Tehran, Fars, Hormozgan, Kerman, and Sistan-Baluchistan; also fall under the red zone.
