As of 2019 report, it documented India as the 131st position out of 189 countries on the list. Moreover, Bhutan and Nepal had beaten India with the position 129th and 130th respectively.  In 2019, India’s value on HDI is 0.645. Standing on the Medium Human Development category.

What does the latest report imply?

Subsequently, from 1990 to 2020, India’s HDI value has been increasing from 0.429 to 0.645. With an increase of 50.3 percent. Surprisingly, Norway continues to be the first spot. Followed by Ireland, Hong Kong, Iceland, and Switzerland.

Among the Asia continent, India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal, Cambodia, and Pakistan were ranked under the medium human development. But, also, on the other hand, Malaysia ranked 62, bagging the very high human development. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka, Thailand, China, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam ranked higher than India but lower than Malaysia. Thereby, getting the title of high human development.

What made India drop two spots in 2020?

The latest report claimed that India’s gross national income per capita dropped from 6,829 dollars to 6,681 dollars. This estimation is based on purchasing power parity.

For most development indicators: Inclusion of quality of health, adverse sex ratio, and education; India grabbed the extreme bottom third position.

For the employment vulnerability amidst India: It ranked the bottom third with a high percentage.

Coming to the lower employment rate, India bagged the top third grouping of countries. Meanwhile, preceded the same concerning the higher representation of women in elected local governments.
