God examines the heart of mankind to see if he is honest and pleasing towards Him.
Never be satisfied giving God some time, some attention, some weekends, some of who you are. God created you and gave you with the ability to give your all to Him. That comes with choice.
I find it incredible that no matter who you are, God has given you the ability to bring Him acceptable worship. Your worship to God is not considered “lower-class,” “middle-class,” or “upper-class,” based on your material wealth, upbringing, or degree of education. No! God knows how He made you, and God knows the talent that He has given you. All God wants is for a portion of what He has already given you to be returned to Him, with the right attitude.
Look at the brothers, Cain and Abel. Both brothers gave of what they had. The big difference was not in the offering they brought to God. No, the BIG difference was in their attitude as they gave their offering. They had totally different attitudes in how they went to worship God.
Genesis 4:4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:
5 But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.
6 And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?
Cain gave of his gift was an “attitude” that was not pleasing to God. God did not receive Cain’s offering in the same way that He received Abel’s offering because there was something different about Cain’s spirit or Cain’s attitude.
Remember John 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
God is checking out your spirit!
Listen. God does not HAVE TO take what you give Him. No! God can refuse the offering, and God can refuse the person bringing the offering, based on your attitude.
From the outside, both brothers did the very same thing. Each brother gave of his gift. God gifted Abel to take care of sheep, and so Abel brought God a portion of the sheep, as his offering. God gifted Cain to till the ground and bring forth fruit, and, therefore, Cain brought fruit to God as his offering.
What was the attitude issue?
Understand that rebuke or correction will always bring forth the real you. Whatever was “hiding” behind your outward appearances will show up when you have to be corrected or disciplined. Simply speaking, Cain’s unacceptable attitude was there all of the time. Cain’s unacceptable attitude was not going to “white-wash” his offering. God saw his ATTITUDE!
Think about that. You cannot heal what you will not reveal. Therefore, it is my belief that when God revealed Cain’s attitude, God was giving Cain an opportunity to get his attitude right.
Be very clear. God does not want to condemn you; God desires to convict you and bring about correction so that you will be found pleasing in His sight.
Far too many of God’s children refuse to be corrected and end up missing out on the blessings that God has in store for them. Don’t miss out on God’s blessings because of your wrong attitude. God is looking at your heart, and God will speak according to your heart.
Only when your heart is right will you bring to God the gift that He expects from you and that He will accept from you. Blessings Abound!
