Germany will start inoculating its vulnerable citizens with a COVID-19 booster shot from September. Coronavirus is evolving around the world and causing more havoc to people. Therefore, it is quite important to offer extra safety to all those who are at risk. COVID-19 vaccines are safe and provide immunity against the virus. On the other hand, a booster shot after vaccination will help enhance an individual’s immune system.

Germany to Provide Booster Shots to its Vulnerable Population

Amid rising COVID-19 cases around the world; Germany has decided to inoculate its citizens with a booster shot. This booster shot is specially made for the vulnerable population; that is people who are at high risk. For example- prisoners and children. The country’s prisoners are immunocompromised and need more protection against the fast-spreading Coronavirus. Henceforth, the European country will start inoculating them from September. Besides that, they are also planning to vaccinate children between 12 and 17.

Which COVID-19 Vaccine is the Country Administering?

Germany will inoculate the citizens with mRNA-based; Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines. The health officials will vaccinate the citizens; irrespective of the jabs they have already administered. Moreover, the country’s federal health minister; Jens Spahn said that the country is witnessing new Delta variant cases. The government is quite skeptical about imposing a lockdown in the country. Besides that, Europe’s largest economy seems to have general elections next month. Therefore, it is quite important to curb the virus spread in the country.

16 states in Germany have decided; to inoculate vulnerable citizens with a booster shot. These states manage their own health affairs and are ready to ramp up vaccinations in order to keep the fourth wave in the country at bay. So far, the country has fully vaccinated 52 percent of its total population; and at least 62 percent of them have received one dose. Moreover, the government has stated that vaccinations for children are totally voluntary in the country. It requires parental consent.

Vaccination for Children in the Country

Chancellor Angela Merkel; opened the COVID-19 vaccinations for children between 12 and 17 in Germany in June this year. However, she said that it is not compulsory for them to get vaccinated. It totally depends on the parents; whether they want their children to receive a jab or not. So far, 10 percent of the country’s total children population; is vaccinated against COVID-19.
