The G-7 leaders have called for a new and fresh, transparent, and WHO-convened study to find out the COVID-19 origin. Several theories are circulated regarding the COVID-19 origin. But none of them is authentic and practical. Even China is numb on this issue. However, it is extremely important to know the virus’s origin in order to prevent future pandemics. This issue was also discussed in the G-7 summit 2021.
G-7 Leaders Demand A Fresh, Transparent, and WHO-Led Investigation
The G-7 leaders have proposed a fresh, new, and WHO-led investigation know the COVID-19 origin. First detected in China in 2019, the virus is a global issue now. It is almost over a year now. Although, still people are combating the virus. It is extremely important to find out the virus’s origin. This will help in preventing future pandemics. Besides finding out the reason, the G-7 leaders have also decided to donate 1 billion Covid vaccines to the world.
Where is the G-7 2021 Summit Taking Place?
This year’s G-7 summit is scheduled from June 11 to June 13 in Cornwall, UK. All the G-7 leaders will join the summit in person. The G-7 consists of the following countries.

PM Narendra Modi Invited as a Special Guest by The G-7 Leaders
Indian PM Narendra Modi was also invited as a special guest in the G-7 summit. But he did not visit in person due to the ongoing pandemic. PM Modi will join the summit virtually. The leaders have decided to ask WHO for a fresh and transparent investigation on COVID-19 origin. Several countries including India and the US have also called for the investigation. These two countries were the worst-hit COVID-19 countries last year.
No Hearing from China Over the Origin Issue
External affairs minister Arindam Bagchi expressed his concern over the investigation. He said that they have constantly followed the WHO’s report on the COVID-19 investigation. Although he did not mention China. But he indirectly pointed it out for cooperating in the investigation. China has kept numb on the origin issue. US President Joe Biden asked to redouble the investigation efforts a few days ago. And now the G-7 leaders are also demanding a fresh and new investigation. However, China commented that Biden is trying to play politics.
Further Investigation and Strategy
The WHO conducted an investigation in February this year and called the lab-leak theory ‘very unlikely’. Earlier, the WHO also mentioned that they cannot force China to provide more information on the virus’s origin. The G-7 leaders have decided to probe a new investigation very soon. Besides that, they have also decided to donate 1 billion COVID-19 vaccines to the world.
