A new study regarding mixing two Covid vaccines, Covishield and Covaxin has received a green light. The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI; has given the experts permission to carry out this experiment and see how it goes. The two vaccines are widely used in India. Most of the vaccination centers in India are using these two vaccines only. However, there were several theories regarding the mix and matching of two Covid vaccines. And final the experts are going to conduct authentic research.
Experts are Planning to Mix Covishield and Covaxin Together for Trial Purpose
Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore is going to carry out a new study regarding the mixing of Covishield and Covaxin. In a press release on Tuesday, Dr. V.K. Paul, a NITI Aayog member made the announcement. So far, we have seen the efficacy rates of both the Covid vaccines individually. How will an individual’s body react when he is inoculated with a mixture of both vaccines? Moreover, a subject matter expert from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO); proposed the study on July 29. As a matter of fact, ICMR has already presented its data on this technique. However, this research is totally different from ICMR’s.
Indian Council of Medical Research’s Study on the Same Topic
While conducting the study, ICMR said that mixing Covishield and Covaxin together; will provide better immunization to an individual’s body. However, the study has gained immense attention lately. People are quite skeptical about it. The study involved 18 people; 11 males, 7 females, and one median aged 62. Moreover, some people were unwilling to participate in the trials. Henceforth, they were later excluded from the research. ICMR conducted the trial in Uttar Pradesh; inoculating volunteers with Covishield first and then Covaxin. There was a six-week gap between the two vaccines.
What was the Result of Mixing Covishield and Covaxin Together?
ICMR received a positive response after mixing Covishield and Covaxin together. The study suggested that an adenovirus vector platform-based vaccine; and an inactivated whole virus vaccine are quite safe for people. Besides safety, it also ensures better immunization against COVID-19.
They first inoculated the volunteers with a Covishield jab and followed it six weeks later with a Covaxin jab. Moreover, an ICMR expert said that they are quite happy with the results. But the study needs more research and information. As the trials only involved 18 people, it doesn’t specify that it works on billions of people. Henceforth, experts have decided to conduct thorough research on this topic.
