The COVID-19 Delta variant is more transmissible as compared to other variants. First detected in India, the variant is now observed in more than 85 countries across the world. The World Health Organization has called it “a variant of concern”. According to the WHO, this variant is way more transmissible; than any other existing variant. It puts people at more risk.
COVID-19 Delta Variant Reported in 85 Countries
More than 85 countries across the world; have observed the COVID-19 Delta variant. Due to this variant, several countries had to reimpose restrictions, go under lockdown, etc. This variant is spreading faster than any other Covid variant. As the variant is spreading around the world; it is gaining more concern. It was first detected in India; now its cases are reported in more than 85 countries. Several countries have reimposed restrictions; to curb the virus’s spread. American expert, Dr. Vivek Murthy, said that this Delta variant is more transmissible than any other Covid variant.
Is that Variant Fatal and Dangerous?
Dr. Murthy claimed that the Delta variant is way more transmissible than any other Covid variant. Besides that, it is even more dangerous. It points to the fact that this new variant causes severe illness; sometimes resulting in death. This variant now accounts for 90 percent of the new Covid cases. It is currently dominant in the United Kingdom; where mostly all-new Covid patients are infected with the Delta variant. The US is also seeing a surge in the new cases. Henceforth, it is indeed a matter of concern.
Vaccination Plays an Important Role in Eradicating the New Variant
Pfizer’s, Moderna’s, and Johnson & Johnson’s COVID-19 vaccines; are effective against the Delta variant. People who have received their vaccine jabs; need not worry and follow the protocols. But it is a matter of concern for those people who haven’t administered the vaccines yet. It is very important for the citizens to get vaccinated as soon as possible. Just in case, if this variant becomes more dominant, the situation will get worse.
More than 56 percent of the American population is vaccinated against COVID-19. The country is ramping up its vaccination drive. Moreover, the children’s vaccination rate is also very good in the US. It is 62.5 percent for children above 12 years. And, 65 percent for young adults above 18. Dr. Murthy strictly emphasized getting vaccinated. The only way to curb this Delta variant from spreading; is to get vaccinated as soon as possible.
