Netflix’s Dead to Me has become one of the best black comedies in recent years. It has garnered rave reviews for its dark humor and outstanding characters led by the talented Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini. With the show’s critical and commercial success, it was no surprise when Netflix announced that Dead to Me Season 3 is a go.
There is a catch though. Dead to Me Season 3 is also going to be the final season and a farewell to Jen and Judy.
In an interview with Deadline, creator Liz Feldman said, “From start to finish, Dead To Me is exactly the show I wanted to make. And it’s been an incredible gift. Telling a story sprung from grief and loss has stretched me as an artist and healed me as a human. I’ll be forever indebted to my partners in crime, my friends for life, Christina and Linda, and our brilliantly talented writers, cast, and crew. I am beyond grateful to Netflix for supporting Dead To Me from day one, and I’m thrilled to continue our collaboration.”

Netflix has also reportedly signed a multi-year partnership contract with Feldman for original series and other projects. So apart from Dead to Me Season 3, we can expect more to come from Liz Feldman in the future.
Dead to Me is a dark comedy show about two women, Jen and Judy, who meet at a grief support group. Jen (Christina Applegate) is very tightly wound while Judy (Linda Cardellini) is a free-spirit with secrets of her own. Both the lead ladies are incredible in their performances and have amazing chemistry. Applegate went on to receive two Emmy nominations for her performance while Cardellini received one for the second season.
What will the final season come out?
The last two seasons of Dead to Me came out in early May.
The ongoing Coronavirus pandemic has halted production of a lot of shows. There are no news of the pandemic affecting the production of Dead to Me. If all goes right, we are probably looking towards a May 2021 release date. Netflix hasn’t officially announced any release date as of yet.
What’s next for Jen and Judy?
A lot happens at the end of Season 2. In case you haven’t watched Dead to Me, the following contains spoilers.
In the Season 2 finale, Jen comes out clean in front of Detective Perez (Diana Maria-Riva) regarding Steve’s death. However, they are unable to find his body and Perez lets her go. What Perez does with that information will surely be interesting to watch.
We also see Charlie find the letter that Jen had written to Judy. We still don’t know if he has read the letter or not but we are more than sure that he will. What he does with the information in the letter will be worth watching.
In the end, we see Jen and Judy have a car crash. They do survive but with serious injuries. The perpetrator turns out to be Ben (James Marsden), who then drives away. We are not sure if Ben knew who was in the car and we expect this to be a major plot in the next season.
Who Will Be Back In Season 3?
Much of the original cast will reprise their roles in Dead to Me Season 3.
Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini are the soul of the show and are going to be back.
I will miss these ladies. But we felt this was the best way to tie up the story of these women. Thank you to all the fans. We will be getting back to work when it is safe to do so. Much love https://t.co/tJXf31EDhe

Applegate tweeted regarding the Season three renewal that she will “miss the ladies” and that “this was the best way to tie up the story of these women.”
James Marsden will also be back as Ben. Maybe we also see him as Steve’s dead body.
Sam McCarthy and Luke Roessler will also come back as Jen’s sons, Charlie and Henry.
Max Jenkins, Diana Maria-Riva, and Brandon Scott are also expected to return for the final season.
