Children’s COVID-19 Cases Rising in the United States
Amid rising COVID-19 cases around the world, several states in the US have reopened schools for children. Hundreds and thousands of children are testing positive for the virus as they are heading back to school.
So far, more than 250,000 children in the United States have tested positive for Coronavirus and this number is increasing every day. The American Academy of Pediatrics estimated the number and has warned the government regarding this situation. Moreover, this is the highest weekly rate of new cases in children since the pandemic started.
Children’s Hospital Witnessing an Upsurge in Hospitalizations
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), children’s hospitals are flooded with patients. However, hospitals are straining due to the sudden rise in children’s cases. The data from CDC also suggests that approximately 2,500 children were hospitalized in the first week of September. Moreover, the data also suggests that more than 55,000 young adults and teenagers were also hospitalized through August 2020. This implies that COVID-19 is now more active in children and youngsters. Besides that, more than 250 children have lost their lives due to the virus in the United States as of Wednesday. The CDC also stated that there is a five-fold increase in COVID-19 cases among children and teenagers.
A surge in COVID-19 Case Due to the Delta Variant
Who is to blame for all this? The COVID-19 Delta variant, without any second thought. Health experts have already stated how deadly the COVID-19 Delta variant is. It is the deadliest variant out of all the Covid variants that exist in the world. As mentioned above, CDC has stated that there is a five-fold increase in Coronavirus cases among children. Besides that, hospitalizations were 10 times higher during the June-August period with children below four years of age. Moreover, the hospitalizations also increased for teenagers between 12 to 17 years of age.
Vaccinations Play a Very Important Role
Experts have stated this fact time and again that vaccinations play a very important role. It was found that unvaccinated children are getting seriously infected as compared to vaccinated children. Moreover, most of the deaths are from those children who were yet to receive their COVID-19 jab. Hospitalization rates were 10 times higher for unvaccinated children than those who have received the COVID-19 vaccines. Besides that, the states with high vaccination rates witnessed low COVID-19 cases among children.
