Children are likely to receive the Covaxin jab after September this year. AIIMS director Dr. Randeep Guleria, said that the children’s trial will get completed in September. Currently, it is in its second and third phases. Randeep Guleria also mentioned that since the vaccine will complete its trial in September; it can also get approved in the same month. We need to vaccinate children as soon as possible.

Covaxin for Children to Get Approved Soon in India

Bharat Biotech’s COVID-19 jab, Covaxin likely to get approved for children in September. All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) director, Dr. Randeep Guleria announced the news. He hinted at the fact that the vaccine will complete its phase 2 and 3 trials in September 2021. Most probably, it will get approved at the same time. After the children’s trials are complete, the officials will release the data in September. Guleria further said that the vaccine might get approved in the same month. Moreover, he said that if Pfizer’s vaccine is approved, that might serve as an alternate shot for children.

Experts have warned the citizens against a potential third Covid wave. The third wave is likely to affect children. So far, the children were safe from the virus. But, the third wave will particularly hard-hit the children. It is very important to vaccinate children in order to obtain herd immunity. Young adults and children are more vulnerable to the virus now. Several countries around the world have already started vaccinating their young population. In India, Covaxin for children is in its trial phase. Medical institutions like AIIMS Delhi and Patna are conducting the trials. The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) granted the trial’s permission to these institutions on May 12, 2021.

Schools and Colleges Might Get Reopened 

All the schools and colleges are currently closed in India. However, officials are planning to reopen them with COVID-19 protocols. They might ask the children to arrive on alternate days or something like that. Educational institutions can turn into hotspots if proper norms are not followed. It is possible that schools get reopened once the Covaxin jab is approved for the children.
