China to begin COVID-19 Vaccinations for Teenagers this Month

Several provinces in China will start vaccinating teenagers this month. The local media and authorities announced the news on Wednesday. So far, the country has administered 1.4 billion vaccine doses and managed to vaccinate a good proportion of its population. The world’s most populated country is carving out one of the best COVID-19 vaccination drives in the world. And now, they are taking it to another level this month. In order to attain herd immunity, it is quite important to vaccinate teenagers and young adults.

China aims to fully vaccinate the teenage population, that is people between 12 to 17 years. In the Southwest region of Guangxi and Jingmen, Hubei will start vaccinating teenagers this month. Moreover, the other provinces will also start doing the same in the upcoming days. Although Guangxi and Jingmen are planning to inoculate teenagers between 15 and 17 in the month of July. Besides that, 12- to 14-year-olds will get inoculated in August.

COVID-19 Vaccination Drive in China

So far, there are two domestically manufactured COVID-19 vaccines in China. Firstly, they have the Sinovac Biotech COVID-19 vaccine. And secondly, they have the Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine for children between 3 to 17. The world’s most populated country targets to vaccinate 70 percent of its citizens before 2021 ends. And we can clearly see, they are working very hard on it. However, the country doesn’t disclose its vaccination rate regularly. But some sources suggest that they have vaccinated at least 40 percent of their population so far. The country, where the virus was first detected is now having one of the best vaccination drives in the country.
