China Rejects the WHO’s Proposal for Further Study on COVID-19 Origin
In a new statement on Friday, China rejected the WHO’s proposal for conducting another probe on COVID-19 origin. The country’s authorities said that the global body supports political issues over scientific data. After the outbreak of the virus in Wuhan, the global authorities are concerned about finding the virus’s origin. Moreover, they are curious to know exactly how did the virus emerge and collapse economies all over the world. Although the pandemic has killed more than 4 million people, we still don’t know how did it emerge.
Research on COVID-19’s Origin
A team of experts from the WHO went to Wuhan, China in January this year to conduct deep research on the virus’s origin. However, they conducted the first phase of the research with their Chinese counterparts. But they were not able to come to a proper conclusion regarding the origin. As the virus continues to grow and mutate, experts have failed to understand the reason behind the outbreak. There were several theories related to the virus’s origin but none of them are authentic. Moreover, some experts around the world say that the virus originated naturally. On the other hand, some people claim that the virus was made in a lab in Wuhan. However, we cannot come to a conclusion as none of these theories are proven right.
China Lashes Out at the WHO
The WHO urged China to share raw data related to the virus’s origin on Thursday. However, the country hit back on the global health body and refused to cooperate further in the research.
The Chinese authorities said that the initial investigation is enough and they are not going to share any more data with anyone. Moreover, they claimed that further investigation is totally political and it has nothing to do with science. Besides that, the authorities also said that they do not support any tracing that is political.
