Microsoft Corporation named CEO Satya Nadella as the company’s chairman on Wednesday. He will take over John Thompson who secured the chairman’s position in 2014. John Thompson took over as the company’s chairman from founder Bill Gates in 2014. However, Thompson will still continue to serve in the company as lead Independent Director.
CEO Satya Nadella Appointed as the Company’s New Chairman
Microsoft Corp on Wednesday announced CEO Satya Nadella as the company’s new chairman. The Chief Executive Officer will replace John Thompson, who is now the company’s independent director. John Thompson secured the chairman position in 2014 from founder Bill Gates. Nadella took over the company’s CEO position in 2014 from Steve Ballmer. Moreover, Nadella has given his best to Microsoft. He had played an instrumental role in scaling up the business. besides that, he has brought billion dollars acquisitions to the company like LinkedIn, ZeniMax, and Nuance Communications.
Founder Bill Gates Stepped Down from the Board in 2020
This change in the top-level management came a year after founder Bill Gates stepped down from the board. Gates stepped down from Microsoft’s board in 2020. He said that he would like to shift his focus to Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is one of the biggest charitable trusts in the world. Gates stepped down as the company’s chairman in 2014. After which, John Thompson took over the position. Likewise, Satya Nadella took over as the chairman after Thompson stepped down. Thompson will continue to serve as Microsoft’s Independent Director.
What did Microsoft Say in the Matter?
Microsoft had conducted a probe into Bill’s involvement with an employee almost 20 years ago. In 2019, it was found out that Bill Gates was trying to establish a romantic relationship with that person. However, the company has totally denied commenting on Bill’s decision to step down from the board. Microsoft has cordially welcomed Satya Nadella as their new chairman.
