Canada: All MPs Must Get Vaccinated Against COVID-19 Before Entering the House of Commons

Canada mandates COVID-19 vaccinations for all the members of Parliament. All the MPs are asked to get themselves vaccinated against COVID-19 when they enter the House of Commons on November 22, 2021. However, if they fail to do so, they are denied entry inside the administrative building. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also encouraged all the MPs to get themselves vaccinated against the deadly virus as soon as possible before the House of Commons reopens for the first time next month.

In its new advisory, Canada mandates COVID-19 vaccinations for all the MPs before they enter the House of Commons on November 22, 2021. However, the first session of the 44th Parliament is scheduled to commence on that particular day.

All the MPs are asked to get themselves vaccinated; against the deadly virus before setting their foot into the administrative building. The Board of Internal Economy, which functions the house and is responsible for issuing guidelines cited the rules on Tuesday. It stated that each and every member of the Parliament should get vaccinated before the commencement of the new session. Besides that, unvaccinated individuals are strictly barred from entering the House of Commons.

The Speaker leads the House of Commons in Canada. Anthony Rota is the board’s current chair. However, the speaker clearly mentioned that the new guidelines are applicable to all those who wish to enter the premises of the building. Moreover, it includes all the members, staff, office employees, administration employees; press gallery, business visitors, contractors, consultants, etc. Besides that, only people with genuine medical contraindication are exempted from these rules. Meanwhile, they will have to present a COVID-19 negative certificate before entering the House of Commons.

Other Mandatory COVID-19 Protocols

The House of Commons operated during the virus’ peak in Canada as well. However, the numbers were reduced to social distancing measures and other protocols. The MPs are still asked to wear a mask; when they are inside the premises and practice social distancing. A recent release from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s office also cites the importance of COVID-19 vaccinations. The new guidelines are issued to limit the spread of COVID-19 in the country.
