Borderlands 3 mini-game and Borderlands Science
The mini-game feature came out in April 2020. In this, the medical bay called Borderlands Science has players solving the puzzles. The players shift frames between columns and rows to do so. They win in-game currency which they can use to battle the villains. However, the colored puzzles represent nucleotides and fragments of 16S ribosomal RNA gene sequences. These are sequenced by the American Gut Project. By solving the puzzles, the players are actually helping the researchers in creating certain patterns that they can use to improve health in the future.
Attila Szanter told MobiHealthNews, “We have proven that such integration works beautifully in a game where the player community and the game are science-oriented. I call Borderlands Science a milestone project.”
