The 21st century is the era of technology. People are traveling into space, landing on the moon, and whatnot. Meanwhile, controversies are ramping up at another level. Jeff Bezos’ space company, Blue Origin has filed a protest against Elon Musk’s SpaceX. To know the reason, scroll below.
NASA Chooses SpaceX over Blue Origin
Blue Origin, the space company of Jeff Bezos has protested against Elon Musk’s SpaceX. This came after NASA awarded a $2.9 billion contract to SpaceX for landing astronauts on the moon by 2024. Actually, NASA was supposed to hire two lunar lander prototypes, one from Blue Origin. US Congress deducted the fund amount, due to which NASA had to pick only one. Henceforth, instead of Bezos’ company, they picked SpaceX. This has really enraged Jeff Bezos. In a 175-page protest, Blue Origin had accused NASA of misjudging and bias. They have underestimated several parts of its proposal for its lunar lander, called “Blue Moon”.
Protest Filed by Blue Origin
The company has accused NASA of moving the goalposts at the last minute. It has executed a flawed acquisition for the Human Landing System Programme. They have been highly judgmental in picking SpaceX over Blue Origin. Moreover, the company has called NASA’’ decision a “high risk”. This decision eliminates opportunities for competition, the company stated. Besides that, they’ve also blamed NASA for narrowing the supply base, delays, and much more. The protest report has been filed with the GAO. However, NASA has not made any official statement regarding the issue. Musk sarcastically tweeted for the same, “Can’t get it up (to orbit) lol”. NASA picked SpaceX last week in order to develop the first commercial lander and take the next two American astronauts to the moon.
NASA’s Space Programs
NASA is currently working on the Artemis program, which aims to return astronauts to the moon by 2024. This is a huge step in the first human mission to Mars. Planning and plotting are going on for sending humans to Mars. Hope to hear some good news very soon. SpaceX and Blue Origin, both are private space companies in the US. They collaborate with NASA for various space missions. NASA is a government-based space company in the US. However, the protest has been filed but NASA has decided to keep numb for now. This is a developing story. Stay tuned for updates.
