China said in a recent statement that no overseas visitors are allowed in the Beijing Winter Olympics 2022. The decision comes after the rising COVID-19 cases in China. However, in general, it is better to ban visitors to the games; in order to protect the players as well as the audience from the deadly virus. Besides that, vaccination is going to play a very important role in the upcoming games. Scheduled to begin on February 4; China has taken precautionary measures ahead of the Olympics.
Only Mainland Residents Allowed in Beijing Winter Olympics 2022
In a recent statement, China said that overseas visitors are barred; from joining the Beijing Winter Olympics 2022.
Meanwhile, the Chinese government has decided; to quarantine all the unvaccinated athletes; for at least 21 days upon their arrival. The decision comes after keeping the COVId-19 situation in mind; as the cases in the country tend to rise. However, only mainland residents; are allowed to attend the games. This means that domestic viewers are allowed to watch the games; following the Summer Olympics 2020 in Tokyo. Although the Tokyo Olympics had very few or no spectators; the Chinese government is allowing mainland residents to enjoy the games.
First Capital to Hold both Summer and Winter Olympics
The government is to conduct daily COVID-19 tests; of all the domestic and international athletes and workforce in the Beijing Winter Olympics 2022. Moreover, the winter event is going to take place in China for the very first time. The Beijing 2022 Organizing Committee (IOC) has cited all the necessary guidelines for the games on Wednesday. However, the games will commence on February 4, 2022; and will conclude on February 20, 2022; in Beijing and cities in the neighboring Hebei province. The Chinese capital is the first capital to hold both the Winter and Summer Olympics; first held in August 2008.
The IOC Presents the Guidelines for the Beijing Winter Olympics 2022
In its presentation on Wednesday; the IOC stated that all those athletes who are fully vaccinated; will enter a closed-loop management system upon their arrival in China. On the other hand, all the unvaccinated athletes and workforce; will have to quarantine for at least 21 days; upon their arrival at the Beijing Winter Olympics 2022.
Considering the disappointment of international fans in the games; the organizing committee has allowed mainland residents to attend the games. Moreover, the committee will only consider the WHO-approved COVID-19 vaccines. The committee will also consider; the justified medical conditions of the athletes. As mentioned above, all the players will have to go through daily testing; including domestic and international.
