The advent of the Aam Admi Party (AAP) in the Surat civic body is the dawn of a beautiful strategy in Gujarat and integrity will be executed by each of its winning candidates, Party Leader and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal told today. In cooperation with the citizens of the state, he also pledged to develop Gujarat. In the port region, AAP won an unprecedented 27 seats, replacing Congress as the major opposition party in the municipal authorities of the city. Elections were held this Sunday.
Gleaming over his performance of the party, Mr. Kejriwal said, “The people of Surat have defeated a 125-year-old party, the Congress, to give the AAP the responsibility of the main opposition. I would like to assure you that each of our winning candidates will handle the responsibility with honesty.”
The BJP secured 483 seats out of 576 seats on Sunday, as per the results declared yesterday. A close second came from Congress, with just 55 seats. AAP won 27, all from Surat, delivering a major jolt to Congress, which this time did not win a single seat in the district. AAP was contesting the polls for the first AAP.
In 2015, 391 of these seats were won by the BJP and Congress winded up with 174.
More About Results Of Surat:
This time in Surat, the Patidar Anamat Aarakshan Samiti (PAAS), a body of the Patel community, decided to boycott the Congress. This was manipulated by the AAP and presented candidates belonging to the caste, wrecking the Congress.
Mr. Kejriwal said AAP’s victory is the start of a new, fresh, and healthy kind of politics in the state. “The politics of honesty, the politics of good schools, the politics of hospitals, the politics of inexpensive electricity with 24-hour supply. We will partner the people in improving Gujarat”. He emphasized.
The defeat of Congress in Surat creates concerns about its Working President, Hardik Patel. He led the sate-wise Patel agitation of 2015. Many representatives of PAAS were issued tickets by AAP in the city this time. The findings reflect this, too, since elsewhere, AAP could not win a single seat.
The outstanding success of AAP is a reason for concern for state BJP chief CR Patil, who is also a Navsari MP. He, nevertheless, expressed satisfaction yesterday that Surat would be the only ‘Congress-mukt’ corporation.
