Who’s excited for Alice in Borderland Season 2? The Japanese manga based on Haro Aso’s manga of the same name is all set to make a comeback on Netflix soon. Revolving around the adventures of Arisu, the Japanese science fiction thriller series has definitely succeeded in impressing the audience. However, the series portrays a completely different side of Tokyo, where athletes are forced to participate in deadly games. It is a situation where if you win you live a little longer and losing brings to one step closer to death. The story explores dark themes of social and personal issues, survival, race to live, etc.
Alice in Borderland Season 2 Renewal Status
Just two weeks after the premiere of season 1 in December 2020, Netflix announced the renewal of Alice in Borderland Season 2. The first season consists of eight episodes, each about 40-50 minutes long. However, the show performed exceptionally well on the streaming service. Fans loved it and critics too appreciated the storyline, plot, editing, modes of survival, etc. All thanks to the good ratings! Netflix finally renewed the Japanese thriller mystery drama for a sophomore season.
Release Date and Filming Updates
As mentioned above, Netflix renewed Alice in Borderland Season 2 in December 2020. However, the filming did not commence until late 2021. The show uses a lot of special effects and VFX, therefore, it is quite safe to say that the filming will require some time. Although Netflix renewed the series for a second season back in December, we have no updates regarding the release date. There are very few chances that the show might come to Netflix in 2021. We are hoping to see the second season sometime in late 2022. Until and unless there is any official announcement, we can’t really say anything.
Cast and Crew
Most of the main characters from season 1 will reprise their roles in Alice in Borderland Season 2:
- Kento Yamazaki as Ryohei Arisu
- Tao Tsuchiya as Yuzuha Usagi
- Aya Asahina as Hikari Kuina
- Nijiro Murakami as Shuntaro Chishiya
- Riisa Naka as Mira Kano
- Sho Aoyogi as Aguni Morizono
Besides these characters, we might also see some new faces in season 2. However, Keita Machida and Yuki Morinaga will not return in the second season as their characters conclude in season 1.
What to Expect from Alice in Borderland Season 2?
In season 1, we see that Arisu reaches a parallel version of Tokyo where athletes are compelled to participate in deadly sports. However, Arisu realizes that he must continue with the games, even though everything around him is collapsing. After the death of Karube and Chota, Arisu finds companionship in Usagi. The series will delve into more mysteries in Alice in Borderland Season 2. Most probably, it will deal with the games that those face cards represent. Besides that, the relationship between Arisu and Usagi will also deepen.
