The Bermuda Boxing Federation is working to build partnerships within the community that are necessary to see the evolution and growth of sports in Bermuda. Following The Greatest Fight Night at the Fairmont Southampton, The Bermuda Boxing Federation (BBF) noted its partnership with key local businesses organizations to increase overall growth.
Federation president Nathan Dill stated, “The Bermuda Boxing Federation is grateful to the Special Olympics Committee for the support given to us in staffing The Greatest Fight Night at Fairmont on February 25.”
He continued, “Special Olympics Bermuda is such a worthy charity and with its goals are similar to ours, this collaboration was a perfect fit. We would like to thank its members for its time and support of our goals and look forward to working with them in the future.”
Special Olympics National Director Karen Woollery stated, “Special Olympics Bermuda is truly grateful to the Bermuda Boxing Federation with receipt of this donation. The Greatest was a fantastic night of challenging, awe-inspiring bouts and a house filled to capacity, where everyone was enjoying the occasion.
She continued, “This was extremely well planned by Nathan and his team. And Bermuda Special Olympics were happy to be a part. Moving forward, the intent is to continue our special relationship with the BBF, whereby we plan to likewise stage events in an effort to assist our athletes reach the goal of attending the Summer World Games, being held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates in March 2019."
Mr. Dill added, “Our federation would like to set a standard when it comes to community partnerships and relationships with charities. The Special Olympics team are highly professional and provided the organization we needed when planning a large sporting event such as The Greatest. We are more than happy to be able to support the goals of organizations like Special Olympics Bermuda, while working towards similar goals, including the BBF goal to reach Tokyo in 2020."
Programme and Event Manager for the Bermuda Boxing Federation, Melissa Looby explained, “It is our goal to showcase the amazing potential of our athletes in Bermuda, through programmes like our Youth Boxing Academy and events like The Greatest.
"Bermudians came together to celebrate the professional level of local boxing, kickboxing and muay thai, and support those in our youth programs, who look up to fighters like those we were honored to work with on this event.”
She added, “The power of creating collaborative partnerships is important, especially at a time when resources within organizations is limited. Partnerships like these are imperative in acheiving sustainable growth.”
Mr. Dill concluded, “We have to thank our local member gyms and athletes, who willingly give all they have both in and out of the ring. We also hope to inspire aspiring athletes to come find the resources needed to grow in the sport of boxing.”
