Recently, carnival band Code Red generously donated over $2,500 to cancer stricken Kamala Smith, as she continues to bravely fight the disease.
The married mother of two expressed her gratitude for the funds, which were part proceeds from the first annual Code Red Golf Tournament which was held on April 16 at Ocean View Golf Course: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Code Red organisation for their support, in both word and deed. I feel extremely honoured and appreciative being the chosen recipient of their charitable donation.
“I rely fully on financial donations to cover my mounting medical bills since being out of work for the past three years. Times are definitely tough and the going is rough, especially with our finances. It’s not easy to find assistance, especially with monetary concerns. Illness is a burden but your contribution has lightened the load. Thank you to everyone who made this gift possible. Your organisation, supporters and volunteers are forever in my heart.”
Jason Sukdeo of Bermuda Heroes Weekend Ltd. added: “BHW Ltd. would like to thank Code Red for being a part of Bermuda Heroes Weekend and embracing the vision of BHW. Providing the opportunity to bring our community together is one of the many benefits of the weekend of events. We also would like to wish Kamala all the best on her road to recovery.”
Today In Bermuda spoke to Jason (Jugglin' Jason) Ford, Jaime Ramsay and Darin (Blacka) Minors of Code Red who explain why the organisation feels it’s vital to give back to the community and why it chose to donate the funds from the golf tournament to Mrs. Smith.
